Configure Distinctive Ringtones for Mitel IP Phone

Distinctive ringtone feature allows certain incoming calls to trigger IP phones to play specific ringtones, making it easy to identify important calls at a glance. After auto-provisioning a Mitel IP Phone with Yeastar P-Series Software Edition, you can configure distinctive ringtones for the IP phone using Alert-Info keyword. This topic takes Mitel 6867i (firmware: 5.0.0.1018) as an example to describes how to set distinctive ringtones for different types of incoming calls to the Mitel IP Phone.

Requirements

The firmwares of Mitel IP phone and Yeastar PBX meet the following requirements.

You have auto provisioned Mitel IP Phone with Yeastar P-Series Software Edition.

Procedure

Set Alert-Info keywords based on call type

Before configuring distinctive ringtones for a Mitel IP phone, you need to set Alert-Info keywords for each call type that needs to be distinguished.
Note: Mitel IP phone only recognizes the following Alert-Info keywords: alert-acd, alert-internal, alert-external, alert-community-1, alert-community-2, alert-community-3, alert-community-4, alert-emergency, alert-group, and alert-priority.
Call type Instruction
Internal calls
  1. Log in to PBX web portal, go to PBX Settings > SIP Settings > Advanced.
  2. In the SIP Request Header section, enter an Alert-Info keyword in the Internal Alert Info field.

    The keyword is used to trigger IP phones to play a specific ringtone when receiving an internal call.

    In this example, enter alert-internal.

  3. Click Save and Apply.
External calls
  1. Log in to PBX web portal, go to Call Control > Inbound Route, edit a desired inbound route.
  2. In the General section, enter an Alert-Info keyword in the Inbound Alert Info field.

    The keyword is used to trigger IP phones to play a specific ringtone when receiving external calls from the inbound route.

    In this example, enter alert-external.

  3. Click Save and Apply.
Queue calls
  1. Log in to PBX web portal, go to Call Features > Queue > Inbound Queue/Outbound Queue, edit a desired queue.
  2. Set Alert-Info keywords for different types of queue.
    • For an inbound queue, complete the following settings:
      1. Click the Preferences tab.
      2. In the Basic section, enter an Alert-Info keyword in the Queue Alert Info field.

        The keyword is used to trigger IP phones to play a specific ring tone when receiving a call through this queue.

        In this example, enter alert-community-1.

    • For an outbound queue, complete the following settings:
      1. Scroll down to the Prompt section.
      2. In the Queue Alert Info field, enter an Alert-Info keyword.

        The keyword is used to trigger IP phones to play a specific ring tone when receiving a call through this queue.

        In this example, enter alert-community-2.

  3. Click Save and Apply.
Ring group calls
  1. Log in to PBX web portal, go to Call Features > Ring Group, edit a desired ring group.
  2. In the Ring Group Alert Info filed, enter an Alert-Info keyword.

    The keyword is used to trigger IP phones to play a specific ringtone when receiving a call through this ring group.

    In this example, enter alert-group.

  3. Click Save and Apply.
IVR calls
  1. Log in to PBX web portal, go to Call Features > IVR, edit a desired IVR.
  2. In the IVR Alert Info field, enter an Alert-Info keyword.

    The keyword is used to trigger IP phones to play a specific ringtone when receiving a call through this IVR.

    In this example, enter alert-community-3.

  3. Click Save and Apply.

Set specific ringtones for a Mitel IP phone

After set Alert-Info keywords for desired different call types, you can configuring distinctive ringtones for a Mitel IP phone based on these keywords.

  1. On the PBX web portal, go to Auto Provisioning > phones, click beside the desired Mitel IP phone.

  2. Scroll down to the Distinctive Ringtone section, configure specific ringtones for different call types.

    1. Click Add.
    2. In the Alert Info field, enter the mapping text that corresponds to the predefined Alert-Info keyword for the desired call type.
      Note: The following table lists the mapping text for all Alert-Info keywords that can be recognized by Mitel IP phone.

    3. In the Ringtone drop-down list, select a ringtone for the Alert-Info.
      Note: The available ringtones vary by phone models.
    4. To configure specific ringtones for multiple call types, repeat step a - c.

  3. Click Save.

    You are redirected to the phone list.

  4. Click beside the Mitel IP phone to reprovision it.

Result

The Mitel IP phone applies the ringtone configuration from the PBX and plays the corresponding ringtone according to the Alert-Info header carried in the call.

For example, when receiving an internal call, the Mitel IP phone identifies the keyword alert-internal in the Alert-Info header, maps it to alert internal, and plays the ringtone Bellcore-2.wav.
