Outbound Route Overview
Outbound Route allows users to make outbound calls to external numbers using your organization's trunk resources.
Outbound route setup
You can create multiple outbound routes to define how users can make outbound calls to external numbers. For each route, you can specify the trunk(s) it uses and the user(s) who can use it, and configure dial patterns, digit stripping, and digit prepending to determine how dialed numbers are matched and processed.
For more information, see Set up an Outbound Route and Supported Pattern Syntax.
Outbound route priority
When a user makes an outbound call, the system checks outbound routes from the top of the list downward, comparing the dialed number with the dial patterns configured for each route until a match is found.
- If the dialed number matches the pattern of an outbound route, the system routes the call through that route.
- If the dialed number does not match the pattern, the system checks the next outbound route in priority order.
You can adjust the priority of outbound routes by changing their order in the list.
For more information, see Adjust Priority of Outbound Routes.
Outbound Caller ID
When a user makes an outbound call, the system uses the default Outbound Caller ID configured in the trunk settings, if specified. Otherwise, the system determines the Outbound Caller ID based on the following priority order:
- Outbound Route Outbound Caller ID (configured in )
- User Outbound Caller ID (configured in )
- Default Outbound Caller ID (configured for trunk in )
- Trunk UsernameNote: This applies to Register Trunk only.
- User Caller ID (configured in )
- Originator Caller ID: The Caller ID number of the call originator.Note: For transferred calls, this indicates the number of the first caller.
- If the call originator is an external number, the external number is used.
- If the call originator is an internal user, the priority is User Outbound Caller ID > Outbound Route Outbound Caller ID > User Caller ID.
