Set up DOD Numbers for VoIP Trunk

Direct Outward Dialing (DOD) is a service of VoIP provider. It allows multiple extension users within a PBX system to make a outbound call directly, and shows the same caller ID to the callee. DOD is often used together with Direct Inward Dialing (DID).

Note: DOD is often used together with DID (Direct Inward Dialing).

Assume that a company has a trunk that is associated with 5 DID numbers: 5503301-5503305.

When users make outbound calls, their caller IDs are displayed as 5503301, and all customers will call this number to the company. This would cause problem if the CEO would like to receive his incoming calls directly on his extension without having to go through an operator.

In this scenario, you can bind a DOD number for the CEO's extension. You can also set DOD numbers for other users.

  1. Go to Settings > PBX > Trunks, edit your trunk and click DOD tab.
  2. Click Add to add DOD number.
    • DOD Number: Enter one of the DID numbers that are received from the trunk provider.
    • DOD Name: Set a DOD name.
  3. Select the extension to the Selected box.
The selected extension will be associated with the DOD number. When the user makes outbound call through this trunk, the DOD number will be displayed.
  4. Click Ensure.
  5. Click Save and Apply.
